Weekend update: the phone line went out Friday, so our DSL was out as well. Now we are back up and running. But we didn't have much time to blog anyway. We had to do some things to blog about.Friday: I had a soccer game, and after his dinner of a veggie corndog, Burli and I had to hurry to the soccer shop for shingaurds and then the game (both a few blocks from our house). Then JK called and said that the car was acting up - it sounded and felt like a flat tire and then when he checked, nada. After shaking the car and removing the hubcap, the noise stopped, he was able to continue and made it to babysit. Wouldn't it be great if you could always fix the car by doing a hard re-boot?
We were all too tired for movie night.
Saturday: JT's last swim class at the Y. The water temp was supposedly 84, but he and I were both cold after the first 5 minutes. He splashed around like a trooper, though. Luckily we were able to warm up in the hot tub afterwards and enjoy the playground where JT could "drive the bus" to his heart's content. Then we rushed to a large home improvement store, spent too much money on soil ammendments, gardening tools, seeds and seedlings, and hurried home. We dug up two small plots in the yard, about the size of graves, and took turns entertaining JT, which was difficult. At the end of the day he had had one tumble onto his head on the cement, some cactus scratches on his hand, and really cold hands, because we didn't bundle him up enough as the sun went down.
Sunday: Breakfast at the Mission with friends. Yummy. JT enjoyed my blackberry pancakes, the communal cinammon roll, and the strawberry garnish. Then he fell asleep on my lap. Then we all napped at home. (JT was thrashing about quite a bit in his sleep and then woke up at 6:15, which is unusal for him, so he and I swept and mopped the floors in those wee hours.) Then it was back into the garden. We set up JT's pool (Southern California has its merits) and he splashed around, played with his plastic tools in the dirt and planted some sticks and rocks.
So now we have a garden. We'll see if anything comes up in about a week. (Seeds planted: carrots, leeks, radishes, lettuce, beans, pumpkin, basil and some marigolds. Seedlings planted: strawberries and tomatoes. Since our beds are small, we will probably have to move some things out - and the pumpkin seeds didn't even make it in the bed, they are in the area around the tree.)
Tomorrow it is back to work as usual. JT's friend and mom are coming over tomorrow so that I can get a couple hours of work in, and then we will return the favor Thursday.
Will my brain be functioning? Stay tuned.
