This was our weekend...

Friday: JT and I hit the zoo for some animals and a picnic lunch. We looked at a map of China over by the panda bears. JT is convinced that his cousin is still in China, even though I've reminded him several times that he is back in San Jose.

Saturday: What else but trains in the morning with papa! Then we went to a first birthday party in the afternoon. JT was scared of the princess. (A paid performer - he enjoyed listen to her read a story, but cried when she tried to give him a piece of her treasure.) I think I felt a litle like crying, too. Or happy that I have a son? Maybe if I had a daughter I would think differently, but I like to imagine that we would not have read too many of those princess stories had JT turned out a girl. Here JT is showing off his loot from the pinata. No, he didn't take a turn swinging, but papa made sure he went right in and got his share of the candy. Hopefully he will have forgotten about his candy soon.

Sunday: We checked out the water conservation garden (thegarden.org) in El Cajon. (My choice, and JT asked where the trains were the whole trip there and back.) They had a lot of neat exhibits and plants that help keep your watering bill down. Our yard is already looking dried out in the spots that don't get any shade during the day. I would like to plant some Kangaroo's Paw and Fairy Duster to attract more butterflies.

There is a bright orange drangonfly in this picture.

Sunday, continued: First we made a craft in the backyard, and then we baked cupcakes for mama's day. JT licked a bit too much frosting. He has become one of those lip-licking kids. His tongue is licking his lips all day long, especially when he is concentrating. Will he have to carry chapstick around with him for the rest of his life? Did he somehow inherit this from his aunt S.? And how come these cupcakes don't look as marvelous as hers? Perhaps I shouldn't have been talking on the phone while supervising the frosting session.

It was a good conversation, though! I didn't quite imagine how far the frosting was being spread. Looks yummy! And such big eyes! And the candy smile is so big, too!
Hugs from grandma! love you all

Love the frosting mouth!

I tried piping some frosting on to LT's finger so it could be eaten directly and he just wiped it on his pants. Oops. I even demo'ed for him.

Sounds like you had a nice Mother's Day. JT got the frosting likin' from Gt Gpa. Frosting was always his favorite part of the cake and the beater and the bowls were always licked clean. Even gma liked to get in on the act.
Love and hugs to all. Gt Gma
