Its All Trains

In an effort to promote more non-train related activities, JT and his papa put together a lego airplane model that JK brought back after his week in Vancouver. JT and I survived the week alone relatively unscathed. There was a tumbling-down-the-porch-stairs incident. (Zero Owies.) There was also a falling-out-of-the-stroller incident. It went down like this: Tuesdays and Thursdays I drop JT off at his school on campus and park the stroller outside. Then I drive around to the other side of campus, park the car, hurry into my office and make copies and study my notes before teaching section. Then I walk across campus to lecture. Then I walk back across campus and teach another section. Then I have 5 minutes to get to JT's school, so I usually just scurry over there.
Then we take a stroller ride back to the car. In between picking him up and arriving at the car many, many minutes can pass. First he likes to climb up two mini-hills by his school. Then he usually insists on a Jamba Juice over at the student center. That involves a meandering walk there, several minutes of walking down the stairs, sitting on very dirty concrete steps (you don't get enough cleansing rains here), and then he heads up the ramp and makes me take the stairs. Then we head past the library up a hill, up another hill, past the Social Sciences Building, through the Center for Immigration Studies buildings (they have a glass walkway you can cut through), and down through or around the Eleanor Roosevelt College campus (dorms, classrooms, a cafeteria, and my office) to get to the student parking lot on the other side. Tuesday we were heading back from the post office and the Jamba Juice, and we took a route down a steep hill rather than the less steep route through the dorms. "Be careful. You aren't buckled in," I warned JT. Then we hit a bump. "We almost had a catastrophe there," I said, without stopping. "Where? I want to see the catastofee," JT said and hurled himself headfirst onto the sidewalk, squishing his Jamba Juice cup under his hands, therefore breaking his fall. Luckily he was fine, and the leftover chocolate moo'd took the brunt of the force, and besides there was a "catastofee" to check out! (I pointed to some vague crack on the sidewalk because I was too shaken up to bother explaining it.)
He also refused to nap on Wednesday, which meant that he fell asleep at 7. But it also meant that he woke up at 10:30 wanting to eat his apple pie. He had barely made it through supper, but insisted that we light the candle on his apple pie and sing "Happy Wednesday" - but after 2 bites, I rushed him into the bathroom for an amazingly quick bath before he fell asleep.
In any case, we both survived, and although I aimed for fewer train activities, I did take JT to the model train museum Friday morning. What a pushover. :)

Spilled jamba juice is the real catastofee.
