Today's prompt (from Blogher, if you wondered), asked whether you prefer to write with a pen or a computer. (I was going to post a link but now I can't find the link with the prompt. Shoot. And no, I didn't sign up for this, but the Nat'l Novel Writing thing popped into my head the other day which reminded me of the blogging thing and ...)
In any case, I think it would be fun to write with a pen or a pencil, but who has time for that? Besides I don't have to deal with eraser-bits or lots of crossed-out pen marks when I write on the computer.
Actually, I don't really write. I blog some mundane things from our life, just to document it (for what? I am not sure. While it is interesting to read memoirs and little documents from other people's lives, in the future, people will have to sort through the documentation of millions of ho-hum everyday lives.
Do you have a grandparent's journal or something like that and enjoy reading it? Imagine that you then also have a journal from your grandmother, aunt, cousin, mother and some male relatives, too. And instead of handwritten on slightly yellowed paper by hand, these are online with photos and links. Will anyone look at this in the future? How will our children use our blogs to reminisce? Or will they not?
Moving on...
I don't write. Once in a while I contemplate that Great American Novel that I am never going to write. I think about throwing some adjectives around on paper to write poetry. I read up on ways to organize your writing. But I primarily write exams and lecture notes and comments to my students on how to write better (use first person! embed your quotes into your writing! avoid colloquialisms!) without attempting to write too much myself. And definitely not too often with a pen.

i wonder if blogging, as we do it, is a substitute for phone calls or letter writing? perhaps it's the round-robin letter of our generation. i don't know how you'd classify the more anonymous blogs, but that's kind of how i see what we do? anyhow ...
i did read a [insert random ancestor name here] "newsletter" from many, many years ago that is now online and found it interesting from a cultural/legal perspective, not just because it was news of a distant relative, so perhaps in the future, folks will do the same. (ok, now i feel a little sorry for anthropology students in 2513). anyhow ...
you know i love pens, but so rarely write with them. given that i handwrote my passing bar exam, perhaps i'll revisit this. i do have a handful of nifty fountain pens to start with.
sorry - longest comment ever - apparently i'm feeling chatty.
Briefly, that was an interesting article
...sort of goes with my current genealogy kick
...and with creative blogging!
