Happy Thanksgiving

Well, this year was a dud. But everything turned out alright. It all started out with one sick kid the evening before, but he seemed to be on the mend, so I didn't take him to the doctor. In the morning I worked on baking the bread (leaf-shaped fougasse).

We played Mouse Trap on the deck (perfect weather for our appetizers - brie, crackers, pastrami and olives).

Then the kiddo felt worse. And instead of having friends over, one representative was sent over to our house to fetch turkey and fixings and trade for a pie. So dinner was just Mr. Burli and I (Tiny feel asleep and JT was moaning on the couch). The menu: turkey cooked breast-side down, gravy (with mushrooms), roasted baby potatoes, steamed broccoli (for the kid, who ate nothing), stuffing (not so tasty - I used the kind from a bag, I think I will not make that again), cranberry sauce, bread, apple crumble and pumpkin pie.

And then before we even got to the pie, there was a throw-up incident, a 103.5 degree fever and a run to urgent care. Diagnosis: ear infection. Now why didn't he tell me that his ear was hurting? He did mention it twice in the last 2 days but it was more of a my-ear-feels-funny. So this morning I had to run to 3 stores to find cherry flavored antibiotics (although I think they didn't flavor it cherry at all but bubble gum, so I had to bribe him to take it with a Schokobanane). And then he was cold and put on 3 blankets and woke up with a 104.5 degree fever. Yikes. Is this how it always is with an ear infection? This is his first, so that is something to be thankful for.

And not having a television*, we couldn't watch the parade, so that made the day less Thanksgiving-like, but we did see a few clips of it on the computer later.
So, now onward to Christmas!

*We do have a television that we use with the VCR - JT told me he had a daydream where the doctor told him that he had to watch as many videos as possible. Hmmm. He has now watched all that we have and all we loaned. Luckily, that isn't very many, but if you've ever watched Blue's Clues or Barney, you will know that watching them once is enough. But really, it is sweet how innocent he still is. And he is sweet when he is not barking out ' bring me water'!

Sorry to hear that JT had an ear ache. That makes for a very bad time for all.....a miserable kid and a stressed out mom. Hope all is well now. Yes, your bread looks delicious and the table looks delightful.

Sorry to hear that JT had such a miserable day with a lousy ear ache, but hope he is okay now. Your bread does look great and the table looked inviting.

Poor thing! I didn't realize you could get such a high fever from an ear infection and vomiting and all that. Is it really all from the ear infection? I think LT maybe had some when he was really little, but I can't remember now, so I have no idea.

The bread does look beautiful & yummy! Was it as tasty as it looked?

Jack has only had one ear infection too, but I remember it being pretty miserable.

To answer your question, the new house is only a mile away from our rental house. We had to go to Chicago b/c we have no IKEA in St Louis!
