Apples and Bananas, Oh My

In honor of Fall! (Yes, we have Fall! and have even turned the heater on!) and Fall prices on apples, we have been eating lots of apples around here, oddly enough, not as many made into apple pies as usual. Instead we had aebleskivers with maple whipped cream, apple and gogonzola-stuffed pork chops, and I canned some applesauce (although not nearly enough.
Apparently you need ALOT of apples to make applesauce. I just had some. I must have waited too long and the rest were eaten.)
And JT, Sam and I went to visit the bananaman, where we were treated to an informative walk around his front yard/jungle - lots of bananas, oranges, passionfruit vines, coffee beans, lemons, figs, grapes, and more all in the space of his front yard. And just around the corner from us. I will be borrowing the neighbor's truck this week to pick up our first banana tree. (Although maybe it is not technically a tree, he had a nice size banana plant ready - otherwise his pups aren't ready to transplant until April, since they are moving into their 'dormant phase' here in SD.) We were also given a hand of bananas and have eaten several fingers.
Wow. It is fun to have your own bananas, and so much tastier than the Cavendishes you get at the store. I can't wait for more of our edible backyard to be planted!

And, unrelated to fruit, Sam wore this cute hat the other day.

P.S. Please forgive the odd formatting. I downloaded the newer version of blogger's posting software, and it is frustrating. I can't get the pictures where I want them, nor can I get the spellcheck to work. Or even find it, for that matter. One of these days I will figure out where it went.

I love the picture of little Sam. It is adorable. And the aebleskivers with maple whipped cream. Ummmmm! Your neighbor's yard sounds like a tropical paradise.
