More rain, really

It is raining. Well, rain for Southern California would typically be called "drizzle" any where else. In fact, it hardly ever really RAINS here - and thunderstorms? Nope. The rare occasion with thunder and lightning are special indeed.
Hopefully this light rain and cooler weather will help my cool weather garden grow. I've planted brocolli, spinach, some lettuces, carrots, and fava beans. JT started some bok choy in the egg carton, and some California poppies have already appeared in the front yard. My straw flower and Chinese lantern seeds didn't fare as well, since there was a hot, dry spell right after I planted them. I think I will try sowing them inside. JT and I also planted some daffidil bulbs in a pot and hopefully those will bloom in 3-4 weeks, perhaps? They are the tazetta variety, so they don't have to be subjected to extreme cold.
Lately I have been trying to get us out of usual food rut. We had an eggplant lasagne, which JT refused to try. (Not a surprise.) We had some roasted fennel (again no trying), which was pretty good. I made a blue cheese dressing (sour cream, mayo, worcester sauce, blue cheese) and yesterday we had baked tofu on spinach salad with soy-peanut dressing (lemon juice, seseme seed oil, sesame seeds, a little olive oil, soy sauce, a little mayo and pb). The tofu I just marinated in soy sauce and baked in slices in the oven. JT even wanted to try one, and even with ketchup, he gagged. Must be the evolutionary protective measure kicking in! No food that hasn't yet been approved!! At least he tried it...

What gourmet meals you've been having! Homemade bleu cheese dressing - yum!

Since I fall asleep by 9:30, we've been having less gourmet meals such as tofu in Korma simmer sauce, fried rice (great comfort food! thank you TT), etc.

You never know what JT will start liking. I just found out the LT actually likes green beans now, so I stuff him full of them at least twice a week.

is tofu in soy sauce the adult version of white rice & soy? :) i'm impressed he tried that one. but i guess everything is better with wine. no, wait, that's ketchup behind the wine. everything is definitely better with ketchup - it probably would have improved the swiss chard cheese bake we had tonight (at least i think so).
