Off to School on His Birthday!

JT had his first day at preschool yesterday. JK wanted to take him, so all three of us went. I stayed in the background and filled up his spare clothes box and brought in some forms. A little boy came up to me with his nametag and a safety pin, so I pinned it to his shirt. JT's school is an international school, so several of the children don't speak English, or only speak a little English that they have learned there at the school. When I came back in the afternoon, there was one little boy - it was also his first day - following one of the teachers around wimpering. It was sad. I think he only spoke Chinese. He just missed his family. JT stayed at school between 10:15 and 1:30 by himself. The teachers said he cried some, but he was ameneable to being picked up and comforted. Then he was so tired at lunch that he fell off his chair. (Owie, he told us later.)
I think he had fun, though. There are songs and activities, snacks and drinks, and a nice play area with sand and water outside. The kids are allowed to do all sorts of crazy things. (When I arrived, there were two little boys pushing play cars around a big track of wet, red paint on a table. No one seemed to mind.)
I felt a little sad at leaving him in the morning, but I do think he is ready to play with the kids, and afterwards he was in a good mood, chatting and talking about papa and mama at work, and mama teaching. And he sang happy birthday to himself several times, too. Posted by Picasa

Look at that big guy!

He really started just as soon as he turned 2! Is it the German speaking preschool, or is this a different one?
