Chocolate fondue leads to trip down memory lane...

The weekend before my mother left, we had some guests - my aunt (JT's "other" grandma), and her son D and his fiance K. D was visiting from Turkey, where he is currently living, and was in the midst of a nice visit with his friends, family, and of course, very nice fiancee. Ah, young love. The picking out of the gifts for the wedding registry... I remember that - we went to a department store in Austria and picked out a few random things (wedding in Austria + move to California = no breakable regular dish-type presents): two camping mats (therm-o-rest) - they are still in use and WONDERFUL; a soccer ball (JK's idea), a hiking backpack (also nice and still in use, well, it would be if we were going backcountry hiking); and the cute fondue set seen above. Perhaps that is the one thing everyone should have on their registry - because who can resist a bowl of melty cheese or chocolate? And since it is not an everyday item, it is kindof fun to get it out once in a while and reminisce. Which later that evening or maybe it was the next day, we did.
Our wedding took place on a beautiful blue sunny day in Graz, Austria, where we were wed in a civil ceremony in the city hall, and were sprinkled with rice and showered with bubbles upon our exit, accompanied by a group of folk musicians. We then were told to cut a big heart out of a sheet, and we stepped through together (symbolizing the union) and then proceeded to ride a little tandem bicycle around the main square, where a enivironment fest was going on.
We then proceeded up the "mountain" in the middle of Graz for a photo shot and lunch, then after a quick nap at the hotel (and a brief downpour), we met back up with everyone for dinner, music, and dancing at a local brewery.
For some reason (lack of sleep, nerves, having just completed first year of grad school, and yet undiagnosed hashimoto's, perhaps), I did not enjoy my wedding that much. But looking back, it was a beautiful day.
So my advice to the couple, just enjoy and don't worry about the details. Also, be sure and have extra translators on hand. Oh, that was just if you are marrying in another country. :)
