JT has already learned lots from grandma, for example, how to play "Ring Around the Rosie". She has only been here a week and already we have gone camping and nearly froze in the night (she and I were sharing a blanket and a sleeping bag and the next night we each had our own sleeping bag, which was much better), nearly melted in Palm Springs (even a smoothie and a date shake weren't enough), and then I forced her to walk all over North Park with the stroller. Luckily she is a good sport, and we have wireless internet access, so she is planning to stay for a while.
I have a writing plan that I want to stick to while she is here, but the plan is already off a week due to some unforeseen vacation time that JK is burning.
By the way, here are our tips for camping with a toddler:
1. Bring grandma! (Or anyone else able to entertain the tot.) It was much easier to set up and tear down camp this time. We were also able to enjoy our pudgie pies (turkey, goat cheese, and sundried tomatoes and a dessert pie of marshmellow and chocolate) and hobo dinners after JT went to sleep, since it got dark so late.
2. Be prepared for mosquito bites! (JT got 5, one right on his nose. Now we know what he will look like with acne. And yes, we applied bug spray. He was pretty good at swatting "bug"s by the second day.) Luckily, he wasn't real bothered by the bites. The fire ant that got his finger was more distressing, but a few rounds of jumping and ball chasing can cure all ills.
3. Change diapers and clothes in the trunk of the car:
