This Last weekend the weather was perfect for a visit to the Safari Park with grandma. It was fun reminiscing about the first time we went there with my sister (#3) and her then fiancee (I think) and waited in line for the no-longer-in-existence-monorail. The Park has changed a great deal in the last 12 years, and it is hard to imagine what it would have been like in 1972 when it first opened.
We saw giraffes, rhinos (one species of which we were told are only 8 left in the entire world or according to wiki%pedia there are even less), gazelles, zebras, etc., etc. The lions were particularly lazy.
We observed some smaller local animals, too.
Look close, this pelican has a baby!
The kids had fun - Tiny does not remember being there, so he was really interested in this "really big zoo" and JT insisted we follow him to the soft serve ice cream booth.
Catching up in food news... one evening we had Marillenknoedel. They were scrumptious. If you happen to see fresh apricots at your farmer's market, I highly recommend trying these. (Recipe
here.)
My mom picked up a cherimoya at the farmer's market. It has a beautiful scalloped outside, big black seeds, and a creamy, sweet, scoopable inside.
And for her birthday, we enjoyed some dinner from the grill.
And just to round things out, here is the little guy at 5 weeks.
Hope you have a nice long weekend!

Phineas is looking so plump and getting tall. Your marillenknoedel made my mouth water. The thought of some nice ripe apricots is delightful.
Love, GmaH
Marillenknoedel! not to be confused with the knaidel, or is it knadel!?, from the national spelling bee last week.
i haven't yet been to the safari park - maybe next time?
(and happy birthday to tiny! there might be a card in the mail one of these days. oops.)
