The Latest Scoop

A chicken laid an egg. And must have sat too hard upon it. When I looked in the nesting box this afternoon, I found this:
Judging from the color, it was Fluffy. Hopefully we will be in the egg business soon!
And since we couldn't eat that egg, here is dinner (actually, we ate this yesterday and again today - and Tiny, who at first refused a bite, tried some and said 'I like it.' But he did not want the peas.):

Shepherd's pie made with turkey and mushrooms. Salad from the garden (not the cucumbers). Today we had a tasty yellow carrot. Oh, and the broccoli. We have been eating garden brocolli for 2 weeks. All good - Except... once I had steamed it in the microwave tonight, I discovered 2 cooked worms in the bowl. At least they weren't half eaten.
And classes are all officially on this week - so far it looks like I have about 270 students. One told me he will sometimes wear a cat-tail to class. Something about pet activism? Another asked me if I believed in Big Foot. Another told me that crows speak two languages. (That would be two crow languages.) This semester could prove to be challenging in multiple ways...

It looks like there is a good possibility that you all might be eating green eggs and ham soon! (-:

This is so exciting!! Think of all the egg things you can make. We just started making frittatas and they are delicious! Yum, yum!

I think the hens heard you mention chicken stew and really tried hard--too hard! That egg probably exploded out and surprised everyone. Dadio says to try more nesting material. As for the students, have fun!?! And I like the new header.

Update on the update! Today (Wed) I found a non-squished green egg in the nesting box. I did add a bit more padding, maybe that helped.

good for fluffy! i had no idea hens had to practice laying eggs? but i do think it's a good thing you found whole worms, not halfsies. i had that happen with some cauliflower once (whole ones).
