The Fair

It is officially summer! Saturday we joined the masses and trudged around the county fair all day. We did not try the deep-fried butter. I think that was just a gag to get people talking, because who would eat that? Nor did we try the chocolate dipped bacon, even though Aunt J and I dipped bacon in the chocolate fondue we had at her house. (It was good - a nice combination of salty and sweet.) Mr. Burli and I shared a giant baked pretzel - jalapeno cheese flavor. It was delicious. JT rode several rides - some with Mr. Burli, but even some by himself. He has become quite brave lately. Both boys successfully 'escaped' from a burning (smokey) mobile home - part of the fire dept's fire safety program. As usual, I enjoyed the wood working and the garden displays the most, but really we drooled over the hot tubs and boy, one of those in the backyard would have been a perfect end to the day...

I remember that your CountyFair is one of the best ever, especially with you all, and you look like you enjoyed it even more this year. Gpa and I were at Truman library Monday--quite nice but most all the visitors were grayheads, maybe many of them remembered him--oh my, yikes, he was president when we were babies! We also went to the Harley plant--appealing to Boomers and young people, too!
Love, Gma/momsie

Oh my. Deep fried butter. I, uh, wow! Glad you tried something from the stand at least.

Looks like a fun day! Love the comb on that rooster/chicken/thing!
