I am still here in the hospital, waiting to go home. My roommate yesterday mysteriously moved to an isolation room while I was napping, so I discovered I have a beautiful view out the window. The green of the trees and the dark brown of the mountains (a very prominent Cowles and others) were just gorgeous in the evening light. Then I got a new roommate around 10 last night. Who promptly watched MTV until 1 last night, making it difficult to sleep. Each bed has its own television and the sound is on the remote, so she could keep it low, but ... she is about 19 or something and is here for .... an infected tongue ring. And she just told the nurse her pain level was 6. Hmmm. Either I totally misinterpret the pain level system or I have a high tolerance for pain. I was never even a level 6 while in labor or after the c-sections. I mean if 10 means you are practically dead, and 1 is just normal, 6 has to be pretty painful and she was eating salad, talking with her friend (who spent the night in a chair and keeps talking about possibly being pregnant), but then again, people experience pain in different ways. Anyway, I hope her infection clears up. And she did just mention on the phone that she won't get anything pierced anymore.
I thought I was going to be discharged earlier, but the doctor was concerned about my fever last night and decided that I needed another dose of antibiotics on the drip. So tonight. Soon. Unless I suddenly get another fever.
P.S. My other roommate was possibly the founder of compassionforafricanvillages.org, I am not sure, but it sounded like she was. I would have liked to talk to her. Not that I don't want to talk to the current roommate, but I think we would have less in common.
Edited to add: And now she wanted the room colder so they turned down the thermostat. For some reason she doesn't have to wear a hospital gown, but I do. Oh well. Just send me home!

will you hurry up and get better already?! this live-blogging the hospital is entertaining, but really. interesting roomies, for sure. XOXO
Your roommate story is really funny ... infected tounge ring?!?!
Glad you're back at home now!
Dear Chris,
I keep my fingers crossed that you will be discharged soon. But remember, at least you had some privacy in the beginning and you seem to have privaty curtains that are in use and you have a nice view and you have television sets. This all seems like major luxory to me. When I went to hospital in February I shared the room with two other ladies and there was nothing of the above mentioned goodies... I still enjoyed some time away from home (and housework) - I am emberassed to admit. And I really quite liked the painkillers :-) and the food I didn't have to cook myself. Ah well ... love to you and hope this posting finds you already back home! Take care.
Love Julia
