Mr. Burli joined JT's class on a fieldtrip to Old Town last week; I helped out in the kindergarten art class. We also had a Santa Ana wind - hot and dry. In the art class the teacher mentioned something about Winter being cold and then added, in other parts of the country. I think we need to teach our kids that winter here is a different type of season - we may not have snow, but we have growth and flowers and green, even when we also get a hot, dry wind. In any case, the kids and I ended up at Old Town again Friday. They dipped candles and spent too much money at the Candy Shoppe.
Always looking for something different to cook that maybe one kid might try, I made this pasta with pine nuts, Greek yogurt and peas from a recipe in the paper. I liked it. Maybe a tad garlicky. Phin ate a bite. More for me!
And in sad news, we lost a chicken. Poor Thea just curled up and died. She was sitting around in the coop more for a couple days at the most, and then Friday morning, Mr. Burli said, why is she just sitting there? I went out and looked and she was just sitting in the corner, so I thought I would check when I got home, but by then she was gone. We didn't find an obvious problem - no mites, for example. But maybe she had an egg that wouldn't come out or maybe the stress of moving coop and Cosmo's stalking just wore her out. We buried her near Diego and the kids threw in flowers and Sammy even drew a picture. Then all of the sudden he was really sad and threw himself down on the ground. JT was distraught and Phin said, Night night, chicken.
She was a good chicken and we will miss her.
