| All of the sudden the babies were gone. I expected to find little bird bodies in the courtyard, but luckily there were none. The Mother Bird was concerned, too. (Soon Father bird also showed up and the coo'd around.) |
 |
Luckily we soon spotted the babies tweens in the mulch and rocks of the courtyard. Mother and Father seemed relieved. |

| JT left with my foks from this train station, and he made me promise to put the birds back up in the nest, but the parents were keeping watch and we kept the cat in, and they survived the night on the ground. |
 |
| The next day they were able to fly up to this fence and stayed overnight, and the next day they moved on to the jacaranda tree. I geuss they are officially teens now - testing out their wings and about to move on. They still visit the courtyard in the mornings. Perhaps Mother and Father will raise another clutch in the same nest... |
(Oh, and they were really right at eye level in the hanging basket by the front door - I can't believe they stayed on the nest like it was no big deal each time someone came to the door. (One guest thought it was just a bird decoration in the basket.)

the parents must have seen the backyard chickens and realized they had found the perfect nesting spot?
Glad the dove tale had a happy ending. I had a robin nest in the tree just outside my living room window. Momma and papa raised two broods there this summer.
It was 107 here today! We're in a very bad drought.

Your bird stories are considerably better than ours - very Disneylike, with the happy ending and all. Perhaps it has to do with the type of bird? Unfortunately, our robins are not as kind as the doves; just yesterday I was scolded multiple times for accidentally watering their home. In all fairness, perhaps this was in retaliation for running over one of their own in our drive way. It did receive a nice burial in our garden...next to a couple of other unfortunate feathered friends that have met their maker at the hand of myself and James (all unintentional instances I can assure you).
Well i just read your blog and now know that the two baby birds I found in our pine tree mulch and yard were baby doves. I don't know where they came from or where they lived in the trees but they were on the ground after our 91 mph winds last Friday. They might have met their demise at the expense of the neighborhood cats. I haven't seen them since then. Your story has a much better ending than mine. AuntK
