Three Day Work Weekend

No rest for the DIYers over here. We spent the weekend schlepping heavy stones around, attempting to fit them into the path, experimenting with cutting and chipping methods. We had already dug out the area a few inches, lined the edges with a flexible edger, laid weedblock and shoveled in a couple inches of DG. It might have been good to put a layer of rocks/pebbles under the DG, but since we aren't mortaring anything in, it should be fine. We can always remove stones and reposition as necessary.

Saturday morning. Which stones where?

You have to use the prybar to lift them up to adjust the DG underneath to allow them to set well without rocking.

Time out to admire the Santa Barbara daisies. (They are tiny.)

And  lavender "mulberry ruffles".

Huge calla lilies.

The work yard. We bought some large slabs and some 'patio' smaller pieces.

Brown paper for templates. The goal was to use larger stones for the main walking sections.

The courtyard, awaiting its fate. (Fava beans along the wall.) Perhaps this weekend...

Best shaping method - cut the back halfway through with the saw, then gently wack it to have the piece fall off.

Helper #1.

Helper #2 (who lost another tooth).

Sunday evening. Exhaustion...

Mr. Burli used stabilized DG to fill in the cracks and watered it. It should harden up nicely and not be washed away as easily as regular DG.
