Status: Still on-going.
I finally made it to the gym last week and Baby Sam went into the childcare without blinking an eye. I think he liked it, even. JT, on the other hand, still refuses to go, even the lure of the possibility of playing with new toys or having new victims to read books are still not enough to convince him to step foot inside.
Meanwhile, Tuesday I hiked up Cowles Mountain. A group of moms from JT's preschool has decided to go every Tuesday after dropoff. I went once and then the following week I thought it would be too hot, so finally this week I went again. Only JT got up late and had a hissyfit about going to school. ("I don't want to go! I am staying at home." And yes, he did it again today.) And he was generally slow at getting ready and so we were late and then Baby Sam wanted to nurse, so I just went by myself, assuming I would run into some others on their way down, which I did.
The hike is 1.5 miles up, and if you are imaging a nice hike in the woods - no, this is desert country here. This is the start of the path:
And this is the top:
Unfortunately it was not a clear day - in fact San Diego actually got about 3 raindrops later that afternoon.
Yeah! We made it to the top! (Going down we took it slow and were passed by some of the more fanatic hikers who actually RUN up and down the mountain and we observed many an interesting outfit - short shorts, no shirts, flip-flops, jeans, an umbrella, many ipods, etc. Of course, I probably looked odd with 2 small extra legs sticking out from my abdomen.) This is an urban mountain at its best - lots of folks out getting a workout inbetween work, school, etc. Pretty neat. You can see the mountain from our house (if you stand on the sidewalk), actually, and it is about 10-15 away minutes by car.
Alright, the project manager on the next project (operation: build a deck and make the backyard more friendly) needs me to assist with some carpenter triangles, so that is all for now.

I've been working on the get in shape project all year and not making much progess... the snooze button is so easy to reach! Good luck! It looks like you are already doing better than me!
Add me to the list of working on the "working on getting in shape" project.
The urban mountain is great! Is the carrier still pretty comfortable with Baby S?
