In other news, yesterday's LA Times had an article entitled, "Before 'Martyrdom' Plan, Belgian Woman's Faith Turned Radical". It turns out that a Beligan woman who converted to Islam committed a suicide bombing in Iraq after driving with her husband from Belgium, through Turkey, all the way to Iraq. The article seems to suggest that we will see more women suicide bombers, specifically Western women converts. In other words, European women, used to being active participants in politics and society, after becoming Muslims, will similarly want to be active in an Islamist jihad. I knew a very outspoken, socially active convert in Austria. She was eager to spread the message of love and peace that she found in Islam. No "explosive convergence of Western and fundamentalist culture" (as Marc Sageman, a forensic psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania and former CIA officer, was stated as saying). I just wanted to offer that as a counterpoint.
The Burli picture of the day shows JT in a pile of books he is currently reading. He checks his copy of "Baby's First Year" periodically to make sure he is on track. Today at lunch he ate wakame salad (seaweed, very good), tofu and green noodles (and also some baby food) at the sushi place. Quite an international baby.
