So March was not too fun. There were a few cute moments....
The wisteria bloomed...
And then there was this large hole in the backyard. Oh fun. (There was a corresponding pile of dirt in the driveway that we had to pay to have taken away after parking on the street for nearly 2 weeks.)
It was also very hot and dry (see news regarding California's drought problem and notice we used the SMALL pool and then watered the plants with the pool water).
And then Mr. Burli got sick. And we went to the ER and then we went to the doctor's and then we went back to the ER and then he was admitted to the hospital. (Viral meningitis - headache, vomiting, stiff neck. He is on the mend now but also had to cancel his trip to Austria.) [I also had to then shovel and wheelbarrow 3 gigantic forklift-delivered bags of gravel (maybe 3000 pounds?) from the driveway into the hole in the backyard, which, by the way, is a dry-well connected to French drains, for all that rain we might get in the future.]
The kids sort of noticed, but they also were just busy with kid things (baseball, piano, playdates, Minecraft, whining, reading, playing with the neighbors) and were just being kids.
Our backyard dill jungle has pretty much faded (due to lack of rain) and only a few daffodils bloomed (lack of rain again), but I did find this caterpillar:
And we managed to grill a few times. Pictured: Salmon with dill, grilled asparagus with lemon, kale salad and corn muffins.
Now: April! Tomorrow is my birthday. The kids are not too excited, but Phinny practices "Happy to you, Mama!" and does a blowing sound. He also speaks in full, if awkward sentences most of the time. Current favorites, "Don't like" (after tasting radishes, lettuce, a spicy chip), "Kitty broke it" (the light in the kids' room - the cat jumped on it from the bunkbed, and yes, broke it.), "Mama (or Papa), play game?"

I'm glad that you are heading into a new month with Mr Burli on the mend. It sounds like you have new muscles for your birthday--have a happy day! I am sure it will be a busy one!

i think "kitty broke it" is my favorite phinny-ism. and i do hope april is better, but i like how you found a few bright spots in march.
