We have a visitor - which is great and gives JT a play-partner, but I also like to visit, so my grading is piling up again. Today was St. Martin's Day and we celebrated by cooking a goose (alright, we made a roast chicken), red cabbage and corn pancakes. (I am not sure whether the corn pancakes are traditional, but they were in my Austrian cookbook). The sky was also a beautiful color this evening.
St. Martin was a knight who came upon a beggar one day (or perhaps night?) and used his sword to cut his cloak to give half to the beggar. The kids in Germany and Austria celebrate by making paper lanterns and parading them around. The German School had a little parade on Friday - complete with a fire in a trashcan and one burnt lantern. (Most of the kids had battery operated lights. And yes, JT had to use a non-homemade lantern since he refused to make one at school.)
Yesterday we went to a really fun 4 year-old birthday party - complete with make-your-own lanterns, singing and lots of delicious food.
But best of all was the shadow puppet show. Care to guess what the story was?

That looks like an awesome party, but is it nighttime? Jack turns into a pumpkin by 7, lol.
