The Easter Bunny Brought Me a Dreidel!

Yes, the Easter Bunny felt that the Easter treats were not diverse enough, and so he scrounged around in the "small misc. toy box" where I, ahem, he stashes leftover small items (for just such occasions).

I had a rough weekend. It started with me losing my keys at Mission Bay Park on Friday. Luckily the hubster was able to swing by, but not after I anxiously combed the area and tried to keep an eye on our car at the same time. (Because, you know, someone could find the keys and walk around the parking lot trying the clicker and easily drive it away, or so I was thinking.)
Saturday morning started off poorly: First, JT wanted to carry "everything, all by myself" outside for breakfast. And as he tried to carry 2 cereal containers (big plastic things), one slipped and spilled all over the kitchen floor. No, not such a big deal. But as I tried to pass him the broom (since he wanted to clean it up), he had a fit because I swept a small path to give it to him. How mean of me. I just love this kind of temper tantrum! And then he insisted sweeping the crumbs under the dishwasher, so I had a tantrum. After which I was sent to my room for 5 minutes by the hubster.
After I calmed down and ignored all the crumbs on the floor, I headed outside. I was carrying the breakfast bowls out to the table under the fig tree when - WHAP! I ran into some boards sticking off JT's swingset, where they had been temporarily stored during the climbing wall attachment job. I was focusing on the table, where the cereal containers were under the tablecloth and failed to look up. I hit the boards hard enough that I was knocked to the ground and broke a bowl. JT was very sweet, asked if I was okay, and then went to get his dad. "You stay here, Okay? Papa, there's been an accident! One of the bowls is broken!" he called as he rushed inside.
Later in the day we stopped by the Nissan dealer to get a key - not to replace mine (I had already called and THANK-YOU! someone had turned mine in to the visitor's center), but to see if we could get a key that would power-unlock the doors (you know, turn the key to the left twice) since the hubster's keys (with clicker) went missing a few months ago. Out he came with the new key, which did not magically unlock the doors, because, according to a sales person who meandered by, our car doesn't have that feature. Well, why didn't the salesguy (in the parts office) just tell JK that when he went in and said he only had a valet key and wanted an original? I went back in and asked him - well, he said, he knew that there wasn't a transponder in the key, but sometimes people just like the way the black rubber part of the key looks. Huh? And spend 21 extra dollars getting a copy? Oh well.
Alright, so the day goes on... and then at dinner I knock my wine glass into the bread bowl. But my luck was improving, for although the glass broke, there was no bread in the bread bowl and all the pieces stayed in there.
This morning I actually felt somewhat better, especially after watching JT search and find the Easter eggs JK had hid around the yard the night before. Some had candies that look like rocks ("oh-neat," he said), there were some chocolate bees and bugs ("Miene-Bayer," he called them, which is a mix-up of the German Biene Meyer, a cartoon bee), a whistle, a "piece of paper"(stickers, if he had turned the paper over), a little notebook, a chocolate bunny, and a whistle (leftover from his 2nd birthday pinata), which was the hit. He played "lifegaurd" all day.
And the better feeling held out - until I looked at our latest credit card bill and decided that not working was a bad decision on my part. And not being able to finish my dissertation is killing me, too. (Not able = I just can't write the stupid thing. I don't have an excuse. Just my old "I just can't do it" thing.)

Oh no! I wrote a whole long comment and it dissapeared. Oh well.

Maybe you need a vacation? I would have thought living in San Diego was like being on vacation all the time! You could take a beach day to yourself or something.

I agree. Don't sweat the small stuff as long as you are all healthy. You live in a lovely house in one of this world's greatest spots. You are talented, both of you are succesful in what you do and you have a gorgeous child. I believe that this "Trotzphase" is very challenging right now. How come that you have stopped working? I really enjoy the 'time off' (off the child) at work. Head up (but I love the way you write - makes me feel as if I am witnessing the tantrum scenes) and slow down. Take care
