It turns out that Muncie is the center of the universe. We were watching "Fast Food Nation" and I am pretty certain that the Bruce Willis character said that he worked with the meat packers back in Muncie. (I could be wrong, the movie was so bad that I wasn't paying that much attention.) On a whim, I checked the Muncie newspaper site ( Star Press and there is a wild turkey cleaning workshop on Wednesday. :)
Back to Muncie as center as universe:
Middletown sociological studies (starting in the late 20s)
David Letterman
The Garfield Guy (Jim Davis)
The Papa John's Pizza founder
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Hudsucker Proxy (movie, never saw it)
Bob Ross
an X-Files episode
Supt. Chalmers on the Simpsons (went to BSU)
and a reality show: Armed and Famous (never saw it, I think it was cancelled)
Plus some other characters in various movies, etc.
So Muncie is THE pop-culture icon. I can't think of any great literature that is set in Muncie. Do you know any?
[Other notables: A quirky and fun anthropology professor that both my mother and I had in different decades. I got an A in her class, my mother didn't. (Sorry, mom!)
There was also the chain-smoking, taxi-riding, rather large English teacher that both I and my aunt had. (Luckily by the time I arrived smoking was banned in the classroom.)]
