Weekend Update

The kids just discovered books on tape (er, CD) for the car. We've started Treasure Hunters by James Patterson. We are already on CD 3, though, so I think we will be done before the end of this week. If you have a suggestion for our next one, let me know. The kids and I are going to head up to Big Sur after school gets out and will need entertainment. We already listened to a abbreviated version of Dumbo/101 Dalmations/Lion King/ Bambi approximately 50 times, but it is nice to have something the 9 year old will look forward to but isn't too mature for the (nearly) 5 year old and that isn't too painful for me, the driver.
Anyways, since I missed the entire month of May. (Where did it go?) Here are some shots from this weekend:

Yes, both adults are playing futsal (a modified version of indoor soccer). From my team, only 2 of us have ever played before. Mr. Burli's team has more experienced players, even if they haven't played in 15-20 years. The first game was fun! I scored a goal, but we lost to the second team of moms from our school. Mr. Burli's team won their game. There has been a couple weeks build up to the actual playing, but if one more player says, "My goal is just not to get injured," I might have to go cry in my fiber drink.

JT finished his baseball season! I attempted to be the team parent but needed some help since I was teaching a night class and missed the team parent training and another lady took over (we already had a slight misunderstanding when I suggested we collect $20 from each player and she said we needed to collect $40 for the banner, etc. - as you can see by the 2 foot tall trophies, 20 would have been fine and the kids could have had the regular trophies and we could have bought 2 pizzas less for the party that took place at 10:30), but she seemed to enjoy taking over and I didn't actually have time to do much and no experience with this league. And maybe I should comment that I find all the praying and god stuff at the little league a little annoying and not at all conducive to the inclusion that should take place in the diverse neighborhood we are in, but that is another post. And they also advertise the 'best nachos in town' - and since I worked at the snack bar I know that they are made of chili out of a can and cheese(?) out of a jar, warmed up and poured over chips. I did not try them, so maybe they really are great. Apparently hip foodie-ness has not reached this baseball field. Needlesstosay no food trucks sponsored any teams. I guess it was almost small town-like. In any case, the boy seemed to enjoy playing and his coach was really nice, so we may be back for more nachos and prayers next year!

And lest you think my days and evenings are spent quietly resting my legs, this guy is a whirlwind. This afternoon he fell off the deck into the plants (luckily he threw a pillow down first so he didn't wind up impaled on an aloe), tried to rip some seedlings out of the garden, dumped a half empty box of Life on the floor, found a half eaten granola bar in the living room (and ate it), threw all the napkins and plastic bags out of the drawers onto the floor, pulled about half a box of tissues out, climbed on various chairs, and showed off his occasional walking (he will go about 4 steps and them revert to scooting). Oh, and most of that was done while I was trying to squeeze in one load of laundry folding and one re-potting of a succulent. The other 2 kids ignored him as they played Minecraft and/or made a Lego video. And now it is nearly tomorrow and I still haven't showered after the beach this morning. So good bye for now.

Whirlwind or spinning top? You can truly say there is not a dull moment around your house! Sounds like you are enjoying games and competitions. We look forward to your visit, but first a couple of you have to celebrate birthdays! Have a good June! love, momsie/gma

i'd bet my non-existent farm they aren't the best nachos in town, but i'd also bet they taste pretty good - fake cheese on chips?! we (er, i mean .. i) call that dinner around here some days.
what about the maximum ride series from patterson? i haven't read them all, but a possibility?

Those trophies are crazy! Our league did medals. This mom appreciated it. Glad JT had fun!
