A Snow Trip

It's raining. And this means that baseball field clean up day was cancelled, one birthday party was cancelled, indoor soccer was cancelled (gym flooded), gardening was cancelled and so we got a little reprieve and I had a chance to grade some this morning and work on our mountains of laundry and clean up a bit before we attended the remaining birthday party. And as the kids eat tootsie rolls from the goodie bag (booty bag, actually - it was a pirate party), I can try and update the blog. (Again we have technical difficulties with uploading pictures onto the desktop computer.)
We took advantage of the long Presidents' Days' Weekend and went to Mammoth with friends who also have three boys. The first day was cold and windy but it snowed that night and the next day the skies were blue, the kids got in snowplay and we even got in some sledding the following morning.

We stopped at Laws' Railroad Museum. This area is very dry and eerily beautiful. Most of the land is owned by the City of LA - they have diverted all the water over to the city.

We also stopped at Fossil Falls, a dry waterfall with lava stone. The light was gorgeous.

So now back to grading and entertaining the troops while sneaking in a few mintues of work here and there.

Altogether, you have experienced many climates/weather situations in a couple weeks; looks like you enjoyed the snow and the sidetrips. Clever pic of mountains in the mirror and great shots of special boys.
I know you all need water, just not so much at once. But like you say, it gives you a little break and you're making the most of it--better than the great snow-calypse of the South that just froze me in my tracks. love y'all, momsie
