JT turned 8 this Friday! He decided it was going to be the best birthday ever. It started out with a rousing rendition of "Hoch soll er leben" (the German birthday song) at school. The kids lifted his chair up for each "Hoch!" and then he passed out peppermint bark (homemade, his favorite candy) and clementines.
His friend, L., came home with us after school and we stopped at a store to pick up the birthday pie (not pictured, as I only made a movie, oops) brought in fresh that morning from the nearby town of Julian. We also stopped at Target to pick up his present - the Bug Obliterator. (In case you are not in the loop, that is a Galazy Squad Lego set.) Then the kids had the whole afternoon planned out with Skylanders on the Wii (L's game, he brought it along), swinging in the backyard, Lego building, etc. I think they had a great time, but they got up much too early and were both in rotten moods in the morning so there were several moments of crisis (a la "this is the worst birthday ever" and "JT was ignoring me") but these resolved. However, something clearly was not right when JT took a nap soon after L left. So now he has come down with a fever, a cough and a weeze. Not the flu, but some kind of respiratory thing. Poor guy. Hopefully the rest of us won't get it!
I think I remember being 8. Was my 8th birthday the one where I wore the assymetrical dress my mom made me? It might be. I remember being in Girl Scouts and selling cookies (which reminds me, I need to stop at the neighbor's house and pick some more up!) and writing stories at school. JT picked out a notebook to keep his writings and doodles in at Staples the other day - I hope he is inspired to write more often!
Do you remember when you were 8?

happy birthday to JT! hope he's recuperating and the rest of you are spared. there might be something small in the mail for him. xoxo!
Looks like that birthday got off to a good start!
When I was 8, I had 2 younger sisters to play with and we had a chubby smiley baby brother who had to drink soy milk--yuk!
I think my sisters and I might have shared measles or chickenpox around the time I was 8.
love you all, momsie/grandma!
PS Grandpa says his family would go to aunt hollie's and she would always have a present for him, even though his birthday was only a couple days after Christmas. Once she gave him 2 nice books. :-}
