Well, that was a busy week, as usual. I still have another stack of papers to grade, but the students will have to wait. Instead I will visit with you. Here is the rundown...
| The garden has been good to us lately - look at all the fava beans! And red cabbage! And lemons! |
| My helper. He did this one day. On the weekend, friends came over and they helped shell another huge pot full. Those are drying in the laundry room. |
| Fava bean and goat cheese spread (eh, so-so) with poached eggs I poached in my new 'poach pods' - perfectly shaped! These were in a little long, I need to adjust the time. |
| My helper with his 'Titanic' - he also made an iceberg. I had to rebuild this several times as it kept sinking and falling to pieces (before being 'eaten by iron-bugs') in the backyard blow-up pool. |
| Remember those windows in the office? My desk used to be there to the right. |
| Now it is in the kitchen. The table is no longer visable under the deluge of papers, test, mail, and books I use to reference my lectures. |
| And there goes Mr. Burli again, always tinkering away at something. |
| Of course, there is always time for some sun. Tiny was so excited to ride on a 'boat!' even if it wasn't the Titanic. |
| And now we have doors! (The built-in shelf also lost the last of the paneling - it did appear that the room was originally paneled. I am not sure how common paneled rooms were in the late 30s. Anyone know? Mr. Burli took out the last section of paneling and dry-walled around. We will paint behind the shelves (and probably paint the shelves, too) and slide them back in. |
| Next week our stucco guy will come and texturize the room with some plaster ! Then I have to pick a paint color. This will be the world's tiniest master bedroom (but bright and airy!), so I am thinking of keeping the walls a neutral color, but I am not certain about how to go about picking a neutral white-ish color. |

Every thing is looking great. We'd love to have Tiny out to help us shell some kidney and black beans later this summer. You're lucky to have such a great helper...and one who's interested in history also!
Wow! The bedroom looks great! And Tiny is growing up so fast.
Love to all, GmaH
That looks amazing! Do both sides of the doors open or only one? I can't believe you guys did all that yourselves!
you guys have the busiest normally scheduled programs.
